Lecture on hepatitis - disease and prevention
In cooperation with the RÚVZ in Bardejov, TSP and workers of the Norwegian project, two lectures on the topic Hepatitis - disease and prevention were held at the Community Center in Zborov on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. The first lecture was attended by 1st grade students and the second lecture by 2nd grade students of the Unified School in Zborov. The lecturer was the head of the epidemiology department of the RÚVZ BJ, Mgr. Daniela Klimová.
In an engaging way, in the form of a computer presentation, she informed the children and their teachers about what types of hepatitis we know, how they can be transmitted, which people are in the risk group, which types of hepatitis occur in our country and which do not. She talked about the fact that hepatitis is dangerous in that it has a long incubation period of 15-50 days and many times people do not remember how and where they could have become infected. She continued by talking about the symptoms and manifestations of this disease, how it can be treated in our country, and when it is necessary to stay in quarantine.
She emphasized that the most important protection, in addition to vaccination, is to follow the principles of hygiene after using the toilet, not only at school, but also at home. She clearly showed them how to wash your hands with soap and warm water and wipe them dry. It is especially important at school to wipe your hands with disposable towels, only then use a towel to turn off the water tap and open and close the toilet door. In addition to your hands, you should also wash the food you eat properly under running water.
Students and teachers were very interested in this topic, because in December there were several cases of jaundice in our village. By diagnosing this disease early and placing the sick in quarantine and vaccinating them in cooperation with the RÚVZ BJ, its further spread was prevented.
After the presentation, the children gave Mrs. Mgr. Klimová various curious questions and she willingly answered them. In the discussion, they recalled how respiratory diseases are spread and how their transmission differs from the transmission of hepatitis. The students thanked the epidemiologist for the lecture with great applause and everyone was thanked for their participation by the TSP worker Mgr. Katarína Niemašíková.
